Code-switching is a phenomenon that exists in bilingual/multilingual societies like in Indonesia where people use more than one language to communicate including in the process of teaching English at English Class Students at Speaking Class of UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda in Academic Year 2021/2022. Based on the preliminary research, the lecturer practiced code-switching in order to help them in delivering materials. In the process of code-switching, the lecturer sometimes practiced their local language. The purpose of this research was to investigate the types of code switching used by lecturer
This research used qualitative descriptive research. The source of data in this research was lecturer and students’ communication while the data in this research are words, phrases, clauses or sentences. The instrument used in this research both are researcher herself and the instrument from Ari Jacob on the switching codes. The data was analyzed using interactive models by Miles, Huberman and Saldana: of data condensation, data display, and data conclusion.
The findings from data analysis shows that there are three types of code switching were found, they are intersentential, intrasentential and tag switching. The result of this research shows that the types of code switching used in the class was 69 from Intersentential code switching, 51 from intrasentential code switching, and 23 from Tag switching used by lecturer.
