Writing is a difficult ability and complicate language skill to learn. It needs well knowledge and thinking to hard then the students produce words, sentences, paragraphs at the same time with the good mechanism of writing, also good an English grammatical, then they will develope their ideas and improve their vocabularies. Every types of writing have the different procedure to write the text. The researcher do this research to know how the student’s writing skill in descriptive text. Descriptive text is one of many types of writing, which is describe about objective and subjective from person, place or thing.
This thesis used a descriptive design by using qualitative approach to describe the student’s writing skill on descriptive text. The research subject is the first grade in SMAN 6 Samarinda in academic year 2019/2020. There are seven students that taken by seven classes. The researcher took the sample by using purposive sampling technique. The instruments of this research are writing test and interview, and use three techniques to apply an collecting data there are reduction, display and verification of the data.
The result of research showed that the students of first grade in SMAN 6 Samarinda in academic year 2019/2020 got the score in categorized high average level. It was classified into five components of writing, they are content, organize, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics.
