Student’s Perception in Teaching of Reading of Intensive English Course in IAIN Samarinda in Academic Year 2019/2020

Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor and Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the second advisor IAIN Samarinda has a program which the program is to increase the English language skill they are reading, speaking, writing and listening. All the new students are required to attend the program, during one year. The name of this institution is Intensive English Course. The objective of this research is to find out the students’ perception of teaching reading of Intensive English Course of IAIN Samarinda in Academic Year 2019/2020.
The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research are the students of Intensive English Course of IAIN Samarinda in academic year 2019/2020, then the researcher only take 25 students and 3 lecturers as respondents. The researcher uses interview, questionnaire, observation and documentation as the instruments of this research. The interview in this research consists 3 questions and questionnaire consists of 30 questions.
Based on the data analyzed, this research can be concluded how perception of Students that the lecturer’s in teaching Reading are good because consist of, 1) Before the lecturer began the teaching reading, the lecturer prepared lesson, 2) In giving the material the lecturer was not only used English book but the lecturer also used some sources such as article and internet so that the class was not monotonous, 3) In teaching reading the lecturer used variety methods and strategies so students can understand easier and do not get bored, 4) Media that the lecturer used were Visual and Audio Visual, 5) In classroom, the lecturer able to built the good interaction with the students and helped the students who have difficult in the lesson, 6) The lecturer is good at organizing and managing classroom atmosphere makes conducive and productive lesson from entry until the end of class, 7) The lecturer has a good personality, is smart, disciplined and creative so that he becomes a role model for students' enthusiasm during the learning process and always give motivation for students to enjoy study reading lesson, 8) The lecturer used oral and written test in evaluation in the form questions-answer and written test, multiple choice, quizzes, Etc. 9) All the tests are according to what students have learned before. so, students can prepare to relearn it, 10) After tests and exam, the lecturer gives the test results and provides an opportunity to improve the score or remedy.
