An Analysis Of Teacher’s Problems In E-Learning Implementation; A Study On English Teachers In Senior High Schools In Muara Badak

This research was supervised by Mrs. Dina Destari, S.S, M.Pd as the first supervisor and Mrs. Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the second supervisor.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the teaching-learning process which is generally carried out face-to-face is transformed into electronic learning or e-learning. In e-learning, the students are distant from their teacher and they use technology to join the lesson, access the materials, and interact with the teacher and peers. Unfortunately, many people are not familiar with this learning system especially the teachers. The teachers experience many challenges in implementing e-learning. The research objectives are the researcher wants to find out teacher’s problems and solutions related to e-learning in several senior high schools in Muara Badak.
The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The instruments used in this study were interviews and documentation. The researcher asked some questions to the informants virtually through video calls or voice notes. The subjects in this study were three high school/vocational English teachers in Muara Badak. This research analyzed by data condensation, data display, and conclusions.
Based on the results of this research, the researchers found that there are several problems faced by teachers in implementing e-learning during the pandemic,: (1) problems related to teacher competence such as the lack of ability and knowledge of teachers related to technology, lack of confidence, difficulty to manage time, difficult to prepare the material, and assess the students; (2) problems related to students such as students are lazy join the lesson, lack of feedback, indiscipline in doing assignments, and lack of knowledge and technology capability; (3) problems related to media such as unstable internet connection and limited quotas and facilities. The teachers do some solutions to overcome those problems, such as: (1) solutions related to teacher competence such as providing mentoring and training for teachers and utilize the WhatsApp voice note feature to minimize plagiarism; (2) solutions related to students such as do a home visit, give extra time to students, choose an easy application like Google Classroom; (3) solutions related to media like instructing students to take material or exams in the language lab at school, distribution of quota cards, and the school facilitates some gadgets and conduct face-to-face learning when cases of covid-19 are decreasing.
