The research was under the guidance of Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as first supervisor and Mrs. Nadia Sya’ya, M.Pd, M.TESOL as second supervisor.
The phenomena of code-switching in Indonesia were worth examining because it can be seen as the reflection of social concepts and cognitive mechanisms that control language switching. Generally, code switching can be found in practice or movie. Movies are media that many people like to watch and enjoy. It invited the audience to see the new world. Sometimes, movies can make the audience cry or feel afraid. People could learn about code switching while enjoying the movie. The research aimed to investigate the types of code switching used in My Generation movie and the reasons why the code switching was used in My Generation movie.
This study used qualitative descriptive research. The source of data in this research was My Generation movie while the data in this study were words, phrases, clauses or sentences. The instrument used in this research is the researcher herself and the instrument from Ari Jacob on the switching codes. The data was analyzed by using interactive models from Miles, Huberman and Saldana consisting of data condensation, data display, and data conclusion.
The result of the study indicated that the first type of code switching used in the movie was twelve from Intersentential code switching, three from Intrasentential code switching, and three from Tag switching. The researcher found four out of nine reasons in the used of code switching there were: The reason they were talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, being emphatic about something (express solidarity) and last an interjection.
