Instructional media is a tool to convey messages from teachers to students. Media has a role to support the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. The use of instructional media can increase and direct the attention of students so that it can lead to learning motivation, more direct interaction between students and their environment, and the possibility of students learning independently according to their abilities and interest. This research aimed firstly, to find out the instructional media used by teachers in teaching English at MTs Miftahul Khair Loa Janan, and secondly to know the teachers’ reasons for using instructional media in teaching English at MTs Miftahul Khair Loa Janan.
The research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The instruments used in this research were observation sheets, interview guides, and documentation. The researcher collected the data during the pandemic Covid-19. Face-to-face learning was carried out in the school during the pandemic situation. So, it was quite easy for the researcher to collect the data. The process of collecting data was by conducting an offline interview. The subjects in this research were two English teachers at MTs Miftahul Khair Loa Janan. The data was analyzed by using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana.
The data results showed firstly, the teachers used whiteboard, pictures, powerpoint, laptops, real things, YouTube video, WhatsApp group, Google classroom, and the internet as instructional media in teaching English. Secondly, the teachers’ reasons used instructional media were the use of media can be a means of delivering messages and subject matter provided, to complement the limitations of existing media at school, students can repeat learning materials according to their needs, and to make students more motivated in learning.
