Reading is very important in the world of education and those who like to read will easily answer the questions the teacher gives. Reading is also one of the keys to success. Anyone that likes to read can expand their views, experiences and knowledge. The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the correlation between the students’ reading habit and reading comprehension of sixth semester at English Education Department in UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda have any significant correlation.
The method used in this research was quantitative research and it designed in a correlational study. The population of this research was 79 students of sixth semester at English Education Department in UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. This research used purposive sampling method. The sample used in this research were 43 students with high or very high categories in reading habit. Questionnaire and test were chosen as instruments in this research. The questionnaire was given to the students to measure the reading habit score, while the test was given to the students to measure the reading comprehension score. This research used the SPSS program to analyze Pearson Product Moment to correlate both reading habit (X) and reading comprehension (Y).
The result showed that the t-score was 1,023 and the t-table was 2,020. It means that the t-score was lower than the t-table. Therefore, Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. It can be concluded that there was no significance correlation between students’ reading habit and reading comprehension of sixth semester at English Education Department in Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Islamic University of Samarinda.
