Grammar is crucial to the development of language skills. Therefore, English grammar discusses a wide range of topics and the conditional sentence is one of them Moreover, conditional sentences are one of the grammar units students must lea rn in SMK PLUS Melati Samarinda. In light of this occurrence, the researcher used the Tea Party (TEPAR) technique to give students numerous opportunities to ask each other questions when they do not fully comprehend the subject matter. The researcher decided to know the effectiveness of using Tea Party (TEPAR) in teaching conditional sentences to increase students‘ grammar aspect At SMK Plus Melati Samarinda in the academic year 2021/2022.
This research used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The subject of this research was the eleventh-grade students at SMK Plus Melati Samarinda, the total of population of the students were 46. The researcher chose two classes of the eleventh as the samples of research. Random sampling was used to choose the sample. The samples were class XI ICT A, the experimental class comprising 15 students, and class XI ICT B, the control class comprising 16 students. The experimental class was taught using TEPAR (Tea Party), while the control class was taught using traditional method.
The results of this study show that tea party had a good effect on teaching conditional sentences. The average score for control class in pre-test was lower than the averange score in post-test. On the others hand, the average score for experimental class was lower than the averange score in post-test. After the experimental class was taught with the tea party technique and the control class was taught without using the tea party technique, the score of the classes increased. In order to find out the significance of the score between pre-test and post-test, the researcher used an independent sample t-test. It obtained sig value 0.018, with α = 5%. Because sig value was less than α, it showed increased results in the experimental class. Finally, to know the interpretation of the experimental class in terms of increasing, N-Gain test showed ―Quite Effective‖. The higher achievement in the experimental class showed that using cooperative learning tea party in teaching conditional sentences to the subjects was somehow effective.
