Reading is a skill that needs to be taught to primary school children as part of the basics of reading and writing in school. Developing a good reading habit was very important and should have started early because reading was a communication process, with the condition that the reader had to understand what was conveyed by the author in the text. If these conditions were met, communication would occur between the reader and the writer. The objective of this study was to determine whether there was a significant effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method in improving the reading skills of English Club students of SD Plus Melati Samarinda. This research used quantitative experimental design with a quasi-experimental method. The sample consisted of 30 students from the English Club at SD Plus Melati Samarinda, who were divided into two classes using random sampling technique: an experimental class with 15 students and a control class with 15 students. The data collection instrument was a test. From the trial of the instrument, 15 valid and reliable questions were selected. The results of the study were evidenced by the average value of students before and after being given treatment in the experimental class, which changed from 6.67 to 9.73. In the hypothesis testing results, the experimental class obtained a t-count value of 5.406, which was greater than 1.701, and a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which was less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be stated that Hα was accepted and H0 was rejected. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the use of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method had a significant influence.
