The focus of this study is on the grammatical errors that English Department students at UINSI Samarinda made in writing the thesis abstract. This study aims to investigate the types of grammatical errors made by English department students at UINSI Samarinda in writing an abstract for a thesis that was based on Betty Schrampfer Azar's book.
This study was qualitative research. Data analysis was descriptive qualitative. The information was derived from theses abstract by students in the UINSI Samarinda English department. Utilizing Miles Huberman and Saldana's documentary methodology, the data were examined. Data Compression, Data Display, and drawing or reviewing conclusions were the three phases.
The results of research showed that 55 sentences from the 10 thesis contained grammatical error. These errors involved the word choices, verb tenses, word forms, and articles. Word form was 3, verb tense was 12, word choice was 11, and the article was 29 based on these flaws. Some grammatical errors were made in the abstract, particularly when utilizing the singular and plural incorrectly and improperly arranging the simple past tense. The researcher anticipated that the students would study more resources in order to master the language. It is crucial to help students see their mistakes once they have written anything.
