Students’ Perceptions On The Use Of Teaching Media In Learning English At Eighth Grade Of MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda

Teaching media is a tool the teacher uses to convey information or learning material, especially in English subject so that learning activities become effective and can be well received by students. Moreover, many different types of teaching media that support learning for example, visual media, audio media, and audio visual media. Therefore, the researcher wanted to know students’ perceptions on the use of teaching media in learning English and what kinds of teaching media are used in learning English. The researcher interested in conducting the experience of eighth grade students of MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda about the teaching media. It is because their experience reflects their thoughts about the teaching media used by an English teacher in learning English in MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda.
This research used a qualitative method. The object of this research was the the students’ perceptions and the subject of this research was is the eighth grade of MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda. The populations are 35 students of the eighth grade at MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda. The samples are 10 students of the eighth grade. There are five students from class VIII A and five students from class VIII B. Questionnaire and interview were used to collect the data. Then, the interactive model developed by Miles Huberman and Saldana was used to analyze the data.
The findings of this research showed that eighth grade students in MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda perceive that they comfortable when learning English through the teaching media used by an English teacher. Students claimed that they are easy to understand the English subject material delivered through the teaching media used by the English teacher. However, some students argued that they need help to understand the English material in learning despite the use of teaching media. In addition, the kinds of teaching media used in learning English in the eighth grade of MTs. Al Mujahidin 1 Samarinda were verbal visual media, non- verbal visual media, and audio visual media. Verbal visual media such as English books, non-verbal visual media such as pictures, and audio-visual media such as short videos in English. However, based on students’ perceptions, verbal visual media such as English books are more often used by an English teacher for learning and teaching English.
